About Havashire Dogs

What is a Havashire Dog?

Havashire dogs are sweet, gentle, and playful little dogs with a loving nature that makes them easy to adore. A rare cross between a Havanese and a Yorkshire Terrier, they’re known for being affectionate, curious, and social.

Their coats are thick, plush, and silky, and they come in many beautiful colors and patterns. Ears may stand upright, flop down, or do a mix of both, giving each puppy its own charm and personality.

Beyond their looks, Havashires are friendly, alert, and people‑oriented. They bond quickly with their families, enjoy being held, and thrive on interaction. With their small size and big hearts, Havashire dogs make wonderful companions for anyone seeking a loving little dog.

Havashire Temperament

Havashires are affectionate, gentle, and playful little dogs who love being close to their families. They enjoy cuddle time just as much as play, and their personalities often blend the Havanese’s gentle, easygoing nature with the Yorkie’s lively curiosity and bold streak. This mix makes them engaging companions who bring warmth and energy into the home.

They’re social dogs who thrive on attention and don’t do well with long stretches alone. With early socialization and steady guidance, Havashires grow into confident, people‑focused companions who adapt well to family life and give plenty of love in return.

What Is a Teacup Havashire?

“Teacup” is a term used for Havashire dogs expected to stay under 6 pounds once fully grown. These tiny pups often have finer bone structure and a smaller frame, yet they’re still full of personality—loving, playful, and happiest when close to their people.

Because of their size, Teacup Havashire dogs need extra care. They aren’t the best fit for homes with very young children or large dogs, since it’s easy for them to get hurt even by accident.

They do best in calmer households where their size is respected and their safety is a priority. In the right environment, Teacup Havashires make devoted little companions who give just as much love as the bigger ones.

Do Havashire Dogs Bark a Lot?

Havashires can be vocal, but they’re not the type to bark just for no reason. Some will “talk” to you almost like they’re carrying on a conversation—whether it’s asking for attention, showing excitement, or chiming in with their own opinion. They’ve got big personalities and aren’t shy about making themselves heard, but they’re not the kind to bark at every little sound or passerby.

With good socialization and a calm environment, Havashire dogs are more curious than reactive. They’re less likely to bark at strangers, other dogs, or everyday noises when they feel secure. Their voice ends up being more of a quirky charm than a nuisance, adding to the playful character that makes them such entertaining companions.

Are Havashire Dogs Good With Kids & Other Animals?

Havashire dogs are generally friendly and social, and they tend to get along well with most people and pets—including other small dogs, cats, and older children. They’re affectionate, playful, and love being included in family life. Their cheerful personalities make them easy to bond with, and they enjoy both cuddle time and active play.

They can also do well with young children and larger dogs, but their small size makes them more delicate. A rough bump or accidental step can cause injury, even if no harm was intended.

For families with small children or large dogs, choosing a Havashire on the larger end of the size range is very important. Clear boundaries and constant supervision are essential, especially while the puppy is young. With the right setup and consistent guidance, a Havashire can be an excellent addition to any family.

Havashire Coat Type & Colors

Havashire dogs have thick, silky coats that are straight or wavy. Their coats are made of hair rather than fur, which means they don’t shed much compared to many other breeds. The hair grows continuously and needs regular upkeep to stay healthy and looking its best, but the result is a soft, flowing coat that makes them especially eye‑catching.

Coat colors are one of the most striking features of this breed. Havashires can come in white, gold, red, black, sable, brindle, tan point, merle, parti, and countless combinations. Some puppies are born with darker coats that gradually lighten as they mature, while others hold their color more consistently into adulthood.

Havashire Grooming & Coat Care

Havashire dogs have thick, silky coats that can be kept long and flowing or trimmed shorter for easier care. To keep their hair healthy and free of tangles, regular brushing with a pin brush and comb is best. Whether you prefer the coat left long or clipped short, a steady grooming routine helps them stay comfortable and looking their best.

Bathing every few weeks keeps them clean without stripping away natural oils. Their faces also need daily attention—eye debris should be gently removed with a fine‑tooth comb and then wiped with a dry cotton round to reduce staining and keep the area neat.

When grooming is consistent and positive, it becomes more than upkeep; it’s a bonding time. Havashires enjoy the attention, and the routine helps build trust.
