At Seeking Shalom Acres, we specialize in small, long-haired, hypoallergenic breeds. Most our breeds are rare, designer breeds. Click the links below to explore each breed’s traits, photos, and what makes them special.
We chose these breeds as our breeds for their gentle nature, intelligence, and adaptability to family life. They're small enough to thrive in any home, yet full of personality. Their long coats offer beauty and variety, and their low-shedding qualities make them a great fit for families who want less hair around the house. Most of all, they’re affectionate, eager to bond, and a joy to raise.
Every breed we work with is wonderful on its own. We love Maltese, Havanese, Yorkies, Shih Tzus, Toy Poodles—and their mixes. But what matters most to us isn’t the breed names or labels—it’s the actual traits: health, temperament, structure, and appearance. Mixing helps us achieve all of these and more, which is why we mix two, and sometimes even three, breeds to get the perfect puppy. We adore Yorkies for their smart, spunky personalities and their upright ears, which give them a perkier, more expressive look. But we also love the shorter nose and babydoll face, which is why pairing them with a Maltese works so well. The Maltese helps refine the face, adds a fuller, silkier coat, brings sweetness, and helps lower the prey drive. If you wanted an even thicker, plush, teddy-like coat, adding Havanese can bring that in beautifully. Their gentle nature blends seamlessly with both Maltese and Yorkie traits, creating puppies that are affectionate, balanced, and visually striking. Mixing breeds also supports better health by increasing genetic diversity. A broader gene pool means less inbreeding and fewer breed-specific issues—leading to puppies that are often healthier, sturdier, and better balanced overall. We’re not trying to “fix” anything. We’re building on what’s already great. Every puppy reflects the care and intention behind the pairing—not just in how they look, but in how they live.
Our breeds are very similar in appearance, with just a few subtle differences. They’re all small—typically 4 to 10 pounds as adults—with the occasional tiny pup under 4 pounds. They have long, non-shedding coats and come in a wide range of colors (except Maltese, of course, who are always white). Most of our puppies have Korean bloodlines, which means shorter muzzles, bigger eyes, and the babydoll faces we adore. It’s what gives them their signature soft features and sweet expression. Some mixes have small variations. Yorkie crosses can have upright ears, while Malshis and Shorkies tend to have more extreme babydoll faces, and Maltipoos and Morkipoos can have wavy or curly coats. What’s consistent across all of our breeds is that they're adorable and irresistible.
The breeds we raise are known for being sturdy, long-lived, and generally low-risk when responsibly bred. Most of our breeds live 14 to 16 years, and with excellent care, many reach 18 or even 20 or older. Their small size helps reduce strain on joints and lowers the risk of structural issues common in larger breeds. We chose these breeds not just for their temperament and beauty—but because they’re built to thrive.
All of our breeds are smart, intuitive, and eager to connect. They're highly intelligent and genuinely enjoy learning new tricks. They’re tuned in to their people and respond well to clear guidance and consistency. We lay the groundwork early—introducing structure, socialization, and basic expectations—so your puppy isn’t starting from scratch. But they’re still young and learning. They’ll need time, patience, and consistency. What makes them easier to train is their strong bond with people and their desire to please.
All of our breeds have very similar personalities and temperaments. They’re affectionate, people-focused, and eager to please. They love being part of the family—whether that means curling up in your lap, following you from room to room, or just being near you throughout the day. While the overall temperament is similar across breeds, each litter—and each puppy—can show a range of personalities. Some are more playful, some more cuddly, some more independent. That’s why we personality test and match our puppies carefully, so you can feel confident that you’re getting the right fit for your family. There are only slight variations based on breed. The bigger differences come down to the individual puppy, which is exactly why we take the time to get to know them.
All of our breeds are considered hypoallergenic. That doesn’t mean zero allergens—no dog is truly 100% hypoallergenic—but ours are about as close as you’ll find. They have hair instead of fur, and they don’t shed. That makes a big difference for most people with allergies, and it also means less mess around the house. In our experience, most families with sensitivities do really well with them.
These breeds have beautiful coats—but they’re high maintenance. Because our dogs have hair instead of fur, they need regular grooming to stay healthy and comfortable. That means brushing, bathing, trimming, and professional grooming on a consistent schedule. You’ll also need to keep up with ear cleaning, nail clipping, and sanitary trims. Without routine care, the coat can mat or tangle, and buildup around the ears or paws can lead to discomfort or health issues. Grooming isn’t optional—it’s part of responsible care for these breeds.
